Lee orders thorough probe into belated discovery of remains of Jeju Air crash victims
President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday ordered a thorough investigation into the recent discovery of additional remains of victims of the Jeju Air plane crash in late 2024, voicing regret over their belated recovery. Last month, authorities discovered nine pieces of remains presumed to belong to the victims in a reexamination of the wreckage site, prompting the victims' families to protest outside the presidential office this week to condemn the disaster recovery process. Lee instructed a "thorough" probe to determine why the remains were not found in the early stages of the recovery process and why they were left at the site for more than a year, according to Lee Kyu-yeon, the presidential secretary for public relations. He also called for "severely reprimanding" those responsible and to swiftly carry out the ongoing investigation into the crash, the presidential aide said in a briefing. "Looking back, there were clear shortcomings. (We) will identify those responsible and make sure that this does not happen ever again," the aide said. The Jeju Air crash on Dec. 29, 2024, killed 179 passeng

‘Stop blaming me’: Producer El Capitxn criticizes ENHYPEN fans after Heeseung exit
K-pop producer El Capitxn found himself at the center of a social media firestorm after responding angrily to ENHYPEN fans who blamed him following Heeseung’s sudden departure from the group. El Capitxn — whose real name is Jang Yi-jeong — posted a message Thursday on his personal social media account telling fans to stop sending him messages about Heeseung. The post included explicit language as he criticized those directing blame at him. “Stop sending me stuff about Lee Heeseung. The kid can mess up sometimes. If you’re real fans, you should hug him before throwing stones,” he said. “Why do you keep blaming me?” The message quickly spread online, drawing intense reactions from ENHYPEN fans. Speculation has emerged among some fans that El Capitxn may have influenced the circumstances surrounding Heeseung’s departure because of their previously known friendship. Some online users even accused the producer of encouraging what they described as “artist syndrome,” fueling the controversy. El Capitxn and Heeseung have worked together musically in the past. Both were cred

Prospects for Trump-Kim meeting around China trip appear low
Prospects for a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un around the former's planned visit to China in April appear low as Washington remains focused on conflicts in the Middle East, diplomatic sources said Thursday. Earlier in the day, Chung Eui-hae, deputy foreign minister for political affairs, held talks with Michael DeSombre, U.S. assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, during his visit to Seoul. The two officials touched on North Korean issues but did not delve deeply into the topic, as the allies focused primarily on implementing their bilateral joint fact sheet on trade and security cooperation, according to a foreign ministry official familiar with the matter. "North Korea remains an important issue, but the United States is currently dealing with a number of pressing matters, including developments in the Middle East," the official said on condition of anonymity. "My impression was that while Washington continues to pay attention to North Korea, it is not an atmosphere in which the U.S. is putting forward new plans
